New 2024 Ontario Building Code
The City of Brampton is committed to supporting the building and development community in adapting to the new 2024 Ontario Building Code by offering a clear and straightforward transition period. This allows building permit applications to continue under the 2012 Ontario Building Code until March 31, 2025, minimizing red tape and simplifying processes for applicants. This flexible approach helps prevent unnecessary delays and confusion, allowing projects to move forward smoothly. By offering this extended transition period, the City aims to foster economic growth, enhance the development experience in Brampton and support both safety and compliance.
Builders, designers and homeowners are encouraged to submit applications early to take advantage of this opportunity under the 2012 Code and avoid potential complications. This reflects the City’s commitment to creating a supportive, business-friendly environment and enhancing customer service.
As of April 1, 2025, all permit applications must be submitted using the 2024 Building Code. For applications submitted between January 1, 2025, and March 31, 2025, the applicant must declare in the Description of Proposed Work which building code regulations the project has been designed to (2012 OBC OR 2024 OBC).
