The Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) is a registered non-profit that champions Brampton's diverse arts, culture and creative industries and advocates for the #BramptonArtist. BAO is a key partner to the City of Brampton in advancing the City's strategic priorities and delivering the Culture Master Plan.
Throughout the year, BAO offers free in-person and virtual programming for all creative disciplines. These programs focus on helping individual creatives build and professionalize their practices and present their work. In addition to these programs for individual creatives, BAO offers programs for Brampton-based creative businesses and arts and culture organizations.
Background
Launched by the City of Brampton in 2021 as the Arts, Culture, and Creative Industry Development Agency (ACCIDA), the organization was incubated within the municipality with the goal of creating an arm's length organization to facilitate the growth and professional development of Brampton's arts, culture and creative industries.
Rebranded as the Brampton Arts Organization in 2022, BAO demonstrated an increasingly significant and positive impact on the local sector during its incubation. BAO's work is celebrated by high-profile Brampton ambassadors for the organization, including poet Rupi Kaur, filmmaker Director X and hip-hop artist Haviah Mighty, among many others.
In 2023, Brampton City Council approved BAO's transition from incubation to establishment as an independent non-profit corporation, with a five-year municipal funding commitment. The City has a five-year service level agreement with BAO, confirming the ongoing partnership between these organizations.
