Welcome

The City of Brampton is actively working to create a more inclusive environment for people identifying as Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and as having other diverse gender identities and sexual orientations (2SLGBTQIA+).

According to Statistics Canada's 2021 census, 0.33% or 1 in 300 Canadians ages 15 and older identify as transgender or non-binary. Between 2020 and 2022, 13% of individuals experiencing homelessness identified as 2SLGBTQIA+ despite representing only 4% of the Canadian population. Research also indicates that lesbian, gay and bisexual people are more likely to face lower incomes, discrimination at work and employment barriers compared to their heterosexual counterparts (Government of Canada, 2024).

By collaborating with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to better understand their unique histories, cultures and needs, we can continue taking meaningful action to support and celebrate this vibrant community.
