It’s Fire Prevention Week! Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!

Join us for open houses and safety displays at various locations around Brampton from October 5 to October 12 to learn more about smoke alarms and fire safety to keep your home safe.

The Division of Fire/Life Safety Education provides various public education and intervention programs for the community. The seven member team presently operates out of the Fire/Life Safety Education Centre, located at 225 Central Park Drive in the southwest corner of Chinguacousy Park in Brampton.

Distribution of fire safety materials to residents either via drop off by property management or public information officers knocking at each unit door
Apartment fire safety presentations
Apartment fire safety displays
Workshops for property management
Program free of charge

Hands on fire extinguisher program includes a theory component followed by a hands on component.
Hands on component includes using a simulated system called the Intelligent Training System™ (I.T.S.).
The program is approximately 1 hour in length.
25 participants can be accommodated per session

Presentations discuss eliminating home fire hazards, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and home escape planning
Each presentation design to be age appropriate
Groups include, but not limited to: day camps, church groups, Girl Guides of Canada, Scouts of Canada, senior groups, service groups, workplaces
Presentations free of charge

School program includes grades 1 – 12
School program either in person assemblies or virtual presentations
Secondary schools programs geared towards hospitality/cooking, career students and co-operative education courses
Program free of charge

Displays at various locations such as school and community events, local retailors and apartment buildings

TAPP-C is a program that brings together fire service and counselling professionals to help families deal effectively with children and teens involved in fire setting.
The fire service professionals educate families about fire and how to develop good fire safety practices
Counselling professionals assess the risk of continued fire involvement and help children and their families deal with issues that may contribute to fire setting
Program available to children ages 2 to 17 years of age
Program free of charge
