Sports Achievement Award - Team

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Definition

  • The Sports Achievement Award’s team category recognizes exceptional local athletic teams.
  • Recognition will be given to sports teams whose involvement in sport has had a significant impact at the National or International level.
  • For the purp​​ose of this award, sports and fitness are defined as those activities requiring physical conditioning and/or refinement of motor skills allowing competitive excellence to be achieved.

Eligibility

  • A team must operate as a Brampton organization. The majority of team members must be residents of the City of Brampton. If a team is selected for an award, non-resident team members may be recognized for their contributions. Brampton residents who compete as part of an International team will receive recognition.
  • Teams must achieve:
    • First, second or third place at a National or International Championship.
  • Championships recognized for eligibility at the National or International level are championships awarded by a sport’s governing body. Olympic competitions qualify, however, regional, divisional, district, or academic championships, tournaments do not qualify.
    • A Provincial or National award must be achieved through eliminations at successive levels. Only at the International level may an individual be appointed to advanced standing without qualifying at successive levels.
  • Milestones/recognition must be achieved within the calendar year prior to the end of the nomination window.
  • Individuals that have received any Citizen Award in the past four (4) years are not eligible.

Notes:

  • The Selection Committee will rank all nominees in this category and award one individual the Excellency Award, which celebrates the achievements of an individual/group who has surpassed expectations within this category.
  • A maximum of 5 eligible teams will be awarded this award.​
  • Brampton residents who are temporarily residing outside of Brampton because they are attending school or training for their sport will also be considered for the awards.
  • Team competitors will receive individual awards. Volunteer coaches, managers and team assistants are also eligible to receive an award.
  • Self-nominations and nominations of family members are not accepted.
  • Posthumous nominations will not be accepted.​​​
  • Successful recipients of the award will be required to submit a background check.
