BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton congratulates the 2023 Citizen Award recipients. Last night, the award recipients were honoured in a private ceremony.
Since 1974, the City of Brampton has been proud to offer a community recognition program honouring Brampton’s outstanding residents in the areas of sports, arts and community service.
To honour Brampton’s 50th birthday since incorporation, a new special award category, Celebrating Brampton’s 50th was introduced for this year only.
The City would like to make special mention of this year’s recipients of the Citizen of the Year Awards, Baileigh Nolan, Sharanjeet Kaur and Gian Paul as well as the Ken Giles Amateur Athlete of the Year Award recipient, Siraya Franklyn who had outstanding achievements in baton twirling.
The Brampton Citizen Awards recognize residents who have made a meaningful contribution or have had a significant achievement in one of the following categories in 2023:
The Sports Achievement Award recognizes Brampton residents whose achievements have been recognized at the provincial, national or international level.
This year’s recipients have made achievements in track and field, basketball, swimming, baton twirling and karate.
The Ken Giles Amateur Athlete of the Year Award, in partnership with the Brampton Guardian, recognizes an outstanding individual who has made a significant impact and/or exceptional achievement at the amateur level in their respective sport.
The Arts Acclaim Award recognizes individuals whose contributions have had a significant impact in terms of achieving local, provincial, national or international acclaim.
This year’s recipients have made achievements in literature, radio, visual arts, arts/culture/film/tv, music, performance arts and fashion.
The Long Term Service Award recognizes dedicated volunteers whose efforts have made a significant impact towards the development and advancement of recreational sports, the arts and community social services.
This year, recipients were awarded for 15, 25 and 35+ years of volunteer service.
The Inspirational Award recognizes Brampton residents who advocate or practice humane action, or who have had an inspirational influence on others.
The Citizen of the Year Awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated all-round community involvement rather than specific activity or contribution. This award recognizes local residents who build communities and show what can be achieved with passion and determination. The Citizen of the Year Award is presented to a youth, adult and senior citizen.
New: Celebrating Brampton’s 50th Award is a new special category in honour of Brampton’s 50th birthday and recognizes individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to community social services, the development of recreational sports, the arts and/or economic development. The award recognizes volunteers, not-for-profit organizations and businesses contributing and/or operating in the Brampton community.
