BRAMPTON, ON — Following severe rainfall and flash flooding experienced between April 2 and April 3, 2025, significant damage occurred along the recently restored shoreline and trail system at Loafer’s Lake. Newly planted vegetation intended to stabilize the shoreline and trails has not yet fully established, leaving areas unstable and potentially hazardous.
Effective immediately, Loafer’s Lake is closed to all public access until further notice. This closure is essential to safely assess the extent of the damage and commence necessary repair and restoration work.
Paul Palleschi Park remains open; however, park access from the lake’s recreational trail and recreation centre areas is currently impacted. Residents are encouraged to access park amenities through alternate entry points while strictly avoiding closed-off areas. Parks staff will be installing closure fencing around the impacted areas by 6 pm April 4, 2025.
Safety reminders for residents
Residents are reminded to adhere to all posted signage, barriers and directions provided by staff on-site. Flood-impacted areas may contain hidden hazards such as unstable terrain, erosion, debris and fluctuating water levels. For your personal safety and that of the broader community, do not attempt to access restricted areas.
City staff and the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) are collaboratively assessing the damage and developing a restoration plan, with the goal of mobilizing crews as early as next week. TRCA will prioritize repairing trail segments connecting to Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre to quickly restore public access.
