BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton will begin the Downtown Brampton Streetscape work along Main Street (between Nelson Street and Wellington Street) and Queen Street (between Mill Street and Chapel Street) beginning September 2024 until December 2027.
This project is a key element in the Council-approved plan to revitalize the downtown core, aimed at enhancing public spaces, supporting business growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
As part of the Integrated Downtown Plan (IDP), the streetscaping initiatives focus on:
- Enhancing the urban environment
- Creating active linkages
- Improving pedestrian experiences
Construction Details:
- Scope of Work: Roadways will be narrowed to one lane in each direction and the pavement will be resurfaced. Additionally, six traffic signals will be replaced with new components.
- Phased Construction: The work will occur at various times between 2024 and 2027, with segmented closures on one side of the street.
- Access to Businesses: Access to downtown businesses will be maintained throughout the construction period. For more information, visit the Downtown Brampton BIA website.
- Work Hours: Construction will take place from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday, with additional work after hours and on weekends as required.
- Road and Sidewalk Access: There will be road and sidewalk restrictions within the work zone to ensure safety. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Traffic Management:
- Road Users: Expect delays and increased traffic on nearby main and side streets. Motorists are reminded to be mindful of sharing lanes with bicycles and to drive with caution around other road users.
- Lane Reduction: Traffic during construction will be reduced to one lane in the active construction zone.
