City of Brampton calls for artists to submit Expressions of Interest for new Terry Fox Memorial at Chinguacousy Park

BRAMPTON, ON— On the 44th anniversary of Terry Fox’s historic visit to Brampton on July 24, 1980, during his Marathon of Hope, the City of Brampton is calling for experienced artists to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the creation of a new Terry Fox memorial.

The successful artist will be chosen to design, fabricate and install a memorial that captures the spirit and enduring legacy of Terry Fox. This memorial will be unveiled in the fall of 2025, commemorating the 45th anniversary of his inspirational journey, adding to the City’s collection of more than 50 public art installations.

The new Terry Fox memorial will be prominently located in Chinguacousy Park along the walking trail and close to the entrance of Terry Fox Stadium, providing residents and visitors with an opportunity to learn about and honour Mr. Fox’s legacy in a meaningful way. Positioned at one of the hubs of activity in Chinguacousy Park where students, families and sports enthusiasts gather for Terry Fox runs, track meets and to experience the power of sport during events, this memorial will serve as a tribute and as an educational and inspirational landmark.

The City of Brampton extends its deepest gratitude to the Fox family and the Terry Fox Foundation for their support and collaboration in bringing this project to life and encourages all qualified artists to apply.

How to submit an Expression of Interest

The Terry Fox memorial selection will be a two-stage national competition open to professional artists based in Canada. The procurement process includes an EOI followed by a Request for Proposals (RFP) from a shortlist of qualified artists. Shortlisted artists will be notified in writing and invited to develop a design proposal for which they will receive $1,500 as compensation for their work.

Interested artists can visit Brampton.ca/publicart to submit their EOI. The deadline is September 12, 2024, by 2 pm EDT.
