BRAMPTON, ON (May 7, 2020) – Effective Saturday, May 9, 2020, the City of Brampton will reopen the Brampton Cemetery, located at 10 Wilson Avenue, with controlled, limited access to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff.
Access to the cemetery will be limited to the gate on Church Street (closest to Beech Street).
The City’s 25 pioneer cemeteries remain closed until further notice.
In accordance with the directives set out by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, a maximum of 10 people will be allowed to enter the Brampton Cemetery at one time with no more than five people per plot. Each visitation will be limited to 15 minutes.
There may be further restrictions if there are families attending plots adjacent to one another. As a result, residents may experience longer wait times.
To ensure compliance with physical distancing regulations, visitors must continue to remain two metres (six feet) away from others (who do not live in the same house) at all times. Those observed not practicing physical distancing will be asked to leave.
Brampton Cemetery hours of operation:
Saturday, May 9: 5 pm to 8 pm
Sunday, May 10: CLOSED
Beginning Monday, May 11: Monday to Friday, 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 3 pm to 7:30 pm
Signage will be posted outside the Brampton Cemetery to advise of the revised hours of operation.
Essential services, such as burials and burial plot sales, continue to be provided by appointment only. Residents are asked to call 905.874.2997 to make an appointment.
The City of Brampton is responsible for managing the Brampton Cemetery, as well as 25 pioneer cemeteries. A list of Brampton cemeteries is available here.
