BRAMPTON, ON (June 20, 2019) – Based on feedback from residents, the new permit requirements for driveway upgrades have been postponed until later this year. The decision was made at the City Council meeting on June 19.
The new rules were originally scheduled to come into effect on July 2. They are now expected to come into effect on November 22. City staff will review the permit program and report back to Committee of Council in early fall with any recommended changes.
At the current time, anyone widening their driveway only requires a City permit if they wish to cut the municipal curb. Residents are reminded that there are maximum permitted widths for driveways in the city, based on the width of their lot. To help ensure proper drainage on a property, there must be 0.6 metres (2 feet) of permeable landscaping (e.g. grass, garden, flowerbed) between the driveway and the side lot line. For more information, call the City’s Zoning Division at 905.874.2090.
