About Uptown BramptonThe Uptown Framework Plan will further implement the Brampton 2040 Vision and the 2018 to 2022 Term of Council Priorities by attracting private investment to transform the uptown area into a Transit-Oriented Community. Several large developers have shown great interest and this transformation will transition the currently car-oriented area by integrating active transportation infrastructure, access to public transit and energetic public spaces throughout the precinct.
Located at the intersection of Hurontario and Steeles – a 5-minute walk from the Light Rail Transit station that will be arriving in 2024 - the urban neighbourhood will be anchored by the Shoppers World Urban Community Hub at its heart. By re-imagining the uptown core into a transit-oriented community,
Brampton residents will experience increased social and physical connection, urban design supporting active lifestyles, reduced pollution, economic growth and job creation.
Quotes“Brampton is a forward-thinking City of opportunities, and we are committed to leading the way on smart planning for vibrant, healthy and complete communities. I encourage all residents to take part in the Uptown Brampton virtual event, learn about 20-minute walkable communities and have your voice heard on what you would like to see the area become. Together, we can unlock the potential of Uptown Brampton.”
- Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton“The Steeles stop of the Hurontario LRT is noted in the Metrolinx 2041 Regional Transportation Plan and the Brampton Official Plan as a Gateway Mobility Hub. This designation supports high density growth and design considerations for multiple modes of travel, including high quality walking and cycling infrastructure. If the global pandemic has taught us anything, it has shown we must be ready to adapt to new challenges and changing behaviours. Transforming Uptown into a transit orientated community makes perfect sense. ”
- Martin Medeiros, Regional Councillor, Wards 3 & 4; Chair, Planning and Development, City of Brampton “The Urban Community Hub Implementation Plan guides the design of the emerging Urban Hub within the Uptown Core. The benefits derived from these successful place-making strategies will be realized in both economic and human terms. This includes job creation, improved public health, social cohesion, and thoughtful development on an environmentally friendly footprint. This virtual event is a wonderful opportunity to engage Bramptonians and inspire further collaboration on this exciting project.”
- Pat Fortini, Regional Councillor, Wards 7 & 8; Vice-Chair, Planning and Development, City of Brampton“At the City, we are dedicated to planning livable, healthy and complete communities that reflect the ideas and needs of our residents. The Uptown Brampton virtual town hall will provide an opportunity for Bramptonians to learn more about the City’s plans for Uptown Brampton, ask questions of staff and contribute their ideas on how the area should be developed as a transit-oriented community.”
- David Barrick, Chief Administrative Officer, City of Brampton
“The next several years are a critical watershed moment in the growth of our region. We must capitalize on a vision of liveable, equitable, diverse, and inclusive neighbourhoods to advance the implementation of innovative and responsible development through positive leadership between public policy makers, industry, and local communities. Brampton’s proactive approach is leading the way and events like this one foster a greater collaboration and expand on an even larger conversation over what kind of cities we want for our families.”
