UCLG is the largest global network of local, regional and metropolitan governments and their associations, representing and amplifying the voices of communities around the world. Through global cooperation, dialogue and knowledge-sharing, the organization works to strengthen local responses to shared challenges and shape policies that leave no one and no place behind.

The World Council is UCLG’s principal policy-making body, while the Executive Bureau supports its work by initiating proposals and overseeing the organization’s administration and financial management. The Bureau is composed of 115 members and meets twice a year, bringing together more than 200 participants from across the globe.

Deputy Mayor Singh’s appointment follows Brampton’s active engagement with UCLG through Urban 20 (U20) summits and ongoing collaboration with FCM. His presence on the Council and Bureau aligns with the City’s intergovernmental strategy and global partnerships, including Strong Cities Network, G-Nets, Bloomberg Philanthropies and ICLEI Canada, among others.

As part of Brampton’s global engagement, Deputy Mayor Singh has championed the issue of tariffs and helped lead the conversation around the importance of building new partnerships with global markets. His advocacy for more equitable trade frameworks and diversified international relationships reinforces Brampton’s position as a forward-thinking, globally connected city.

This appointment reflects Deputy Mayor Singh’s deep commitment to advancing Brampton’s interests and building a more connected, inclusive and forward-looking city. It also positions Brampton as a leader in the global municipal landscape and reinforces the City's reputation as a collaborative, internationally engaged and future-ready urban centre.

New Chair and Vice-Chair of Corporate Support Services

With Deputy Mayor Harkirat Singh stepping away from his role as Chair of Corporate Support Services to focus on his new responsibilities, Mayor Patrick Brown has appointed Councillor Navjit Kaur Brar as the new Chair and Councillor Rod Power as Vice-Chair of Corporate Services. This decision, made under the authority of subsection 284.8(2) of the Municipal Act, 2001, ensures continued strong leadership and governance in this critical area.

Corporate Support Services is responsible for overseeing key functions that support the Corporation, including finance, administration, information technology, human resources, corporate operations, public relations and strategic communications, as well as tourism and events.
