BRAMPTON, ON (March 6, 2025) – Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) is modernizing emergency communications with the launch of the Next Generation 911 (NG911) system. The Joint Fire Communication Centre (JFCC), which provides emergency call-taking and fire dispatch services for Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon, is the third fire 911 centre in Ontario to implement NG911. This milestone highlights Brampton’s leadership in adopting cutting-edge emergency response technology.

Key benefits of NG911

NG911 is a nationwide initiative that replaces 911 infrastructure with an advanced, more resilient system. While residents will continue to dial 911 for emergencies, they will benefit from key enhancements that improve emergency response, including:
  • More accurate caller data: 911 dispatchers and operators can receive precise details, including location and phone number, improving response accuracy.
  • Reduced wait times: Faster call connection to emergency responders.
  • Increased system reliability: A more robust and secure communication network to handle emergency calls.
  • Improved backup capabilities: Enhanced fail-safe measures ensure continued service in the event of a system failure.
  • More efficient emergency response: NG911 allows for better coordination and faster dispatching of first responders.
  • Future enhancements: In later phases, the system will enable residents to send text messages, photos and videos directly to the 911 communication centre, improving situational awareness for emergency responders.
The transition to NG911 aligns with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s (CRTC) mandate for all emergency services to adopt the system by 2027. The public will continue to dial 911 for emergencies, with the added benefit of enhanced communication options that improve response times and public safety.
