​​Brampton to receive $10.6 million of funding per year over ten years, to enhance transit infrastructure, reduce emissions and support transit-oriented communities

​BRAMPTON, ON (January 30, 2025) – The City of Brampton has secured over $106 million in annual transit funding through the new Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF), ensuring long-term, predictable investments in its public transit infrastructure.

Announced today by the Honourable Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, this significant funding will help Brampton Transit upgrade, replace and modernize its infrastructure while maintaining a state of good repair.

The Canada Public Transit Fund is the largest public transit investment in Canadian history, addressing the needs of communities of all sizes, including large metropolitan areas, mid-size and smaller communities and rural, remote, northern and Indigenous communities. Through the CPTF’s Baseline Funding stream, Brampton will receive $106,239,450 over ten years, from 2026 to 2036. This investment will enhance the transit system, increase housing supply and affordability as part of complete, transit-oriented communities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while mitigating climate change impacts.
