BRAMPTON, ON (January 21, 2025) – The City of Brampton invites residents and visitors to celebrate Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Snake on January 31.
Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities. This annual event is held in partnership with the Brampton Chinese Business Association (BCBA) and generously sponsored by Algoma University and Mandarin Restaurants.

Lunar New Year 2025
Date: Friday, January 31
Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Residents are invited to enjoy live cultural performances, including the traditional Lion Dance, sample traditional cuisine provided by Mandarin Restaurants and take part in a variety of free, family-friendly activities.
Lunar New Year, which begins on January 29, marks the start of a new year according to the lunar calendar. The lunar calendar is represented by one of 12 zodiac animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Each year holds special significance and the Year of the Snake is associated with wisdom, intuition and transformation.
Since 2019, the City of Brampton has partnered with the BCBA to host Lunar New Year celebrations, bringing the community together for an evening of cultural performances, traditional food and opportunities to connect with one another.
