About the artists
MixSignals
MixSignals, the dynamic DJ duo, comprised of DJ Demi Rey and DJ Jacey, bring together an electrifying fusion of electronic music with Caribbean influences. DJ Demi's Trinidadian and Jamaican roots infuse her sets with pulsating rhythms and infectious energy, while DJ Jacey's Filipino and Guyanese heritage adds a unique flavor that captivates audiences worldwide. With a shared passion for music cultivated from a young age, MixSignals transcend boundaries to deliver unforgettable performances that break industry stereotypes.
Ajhani Azure
Ajhani Azure (or Jhaz) is a songwriter, artist, producer, and vocalist from Brampton Ontario. Once you hear him, you’ll realize he stands out with a unique approach and sound. He aims to inspire others to push boundaries and break molds. He also wants to be a part of the first tide of a new wave of genre-defying and groundbreaking artists from his hometown.
He makes music that takes elements from every corner of every genre. His musical journey has infused Latin pop and Reggaeton, just as much as it has from jazz and RnB, soul and funk. This fusion of genres has crossed over into singles he’s released, such as “Alone”, True”, "Complicated" & "Sparkz".
Ajhani’s inspirations come from the likes of Frank Ocean, Kevin Abstract, Brockhampton, Childish Gambino, & Dijon.
Jesse Jones
Jesse Jones is a change maker, creator, communicator, media personality and connector of worlds, brands and humanity, and is steadily becoming one of Canada’s go-to thought leaders contributing to the cultural awareness of Canadians.
In his role as media host, Jesse hosted the inaugural season (City TV 2021) of the hit TV show Bachelor in Paradise Canada (from the globally successful Bachelor franchise) and is the creator and host of The Drive which aired on Global television for two seasons. Jesse was also a co-host on ET Canada, having co-hosted the Black History special FORWARD with media and music personality Keshia Chante. The special was nominated for a 2023 Canadian Screen Award.
Jesse has long honed his skillset in leading and creating experiences that matter; by bringing together unexpected fusions and collaborations to expose people to new thoughts, initiatives or products, partnering with major brands like McDonald's, Google, Hyundai, Yale University, TD, Nestle and Coca-Cola. He is also ambassador to the national non-profit Culture Days; helping to encourage Canadians to experience cultural events right outside their doorstep.
Ikky
22-year-old Canadian artist & producer Ikwinder Singh is innovating the sound of India with his own touch of worldly influences. Racking up over 2 billion streams across the globe with songs like Amrit Maan & Sidhu Moose Wala’s “Bambiha Bole'' and Garry Sandhu’s “Yeah Baby,'' his production has rattled subwoofers from the highways of India to the streets of Toronto. Ikky is now shifting to the forefront after working behind the boards with his newly launched label, 4N Records, a partnership with Warner Music India/Warner Music Canada and Coalition Music (4N is pronounced foreign).
Ikky’s production encapsulates the diversity and multiculturalism of the city he grew up in. With elements of Toronto’s signature sound of hip-hop & R&B, along with the vibrancy of Caribbean and Punjabi influences, his infectious production style was first introduced on Gurnam Bhullar’s “Diamond.” It’s what caught the attention of international megastars like Amrit Maan and Garry Sandhu who took Ikky under their wing when he was 17 years old and continues to attract artists like Shubh, Karan Aujla, Torey Lanez, Nseeb, Diljit Dosanjh and Himmat Sandhu.
M.I.A
Change precipitates growth. M.I.A exists in a constant state of change reflective of her own insatiable creativity, acute internal compass and a perennial place ahead of the curve socially, aesthetically and musically. As such, she consistently sets the pace for culture.
Catalyzed at the crossroads of art, activism and fashion, her seminal breakthrough album KALA arrived with the force of a tsunami in 2007. An insurgent pastiche of hip-hop attitude, world music connectivity, high fashion disruption and radicalized consciousness, Rolling Stone and NME both christened it one of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” while Spin touted it among “The 300 Best Albums of the Past 30 Years.” It earned a gold certification and spawned the quadruple-platinum generational anthem “Paper Planes.” Indicative of its impact, the mega-smash appeared in the Academy® Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire directed by iconic filmmaker Danny Boyle. Fellow revolutionaries Tom Morello and Boots Riley covered it as part of Street Sweeper Social Club, while Rihanna performed it in a popular live medley. Famously, T.I., JAY-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne sampled it as the hook for the multiplatinum smash “Swagga Like Us,” taking home the GRAMMY® Award for “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.” She parlayed this momentum into 2010’s MAYA, which marked her first Top 10 debut on the Billboard Top 200. Following the 2013 opus Matangi and the banger “Bad Girls,” AIM closed out 2016 on various year-end lists, and Q dubbed it “her best outing since 2007’s Kala.” Along the way, she collaborated with the likes of Madonna, Nicki Minaj, and Travis Scott, to name a few.
City of Brampton’s Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
In 2020, Brampton City Council accepted a resolution and made a commitment to Indigenous Reconciliation by responding to the Calls to Action and adopting the United Nations Declaration for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This commitment also included taking action on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 Spirited people Call for Justice.
Since that time, focus has been given to developing an Indigenous-led Reconciliation Action Plan, strengthening Indigenous relations through education and awareness. With this awareness our ability to move forward with tangible actions includes creating space for ancient ceremonies that were once banned in Canada. With the establishment of dedicated space for ceremonies, there is a promise that past harm can begin to heal. By acknowledging and accepting the hard truth, we can grow stronger together in reconciliation.
We continue to work closely with Indigenous partners to fulfill our commitments to Indigenous peoples through a nation-to-nation relationship as was intended through Treaty - Silver Chain - Treaty of Niagara and the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action.
