BRAMPTON, ON (June 17, 2022) – The City of Brampton is pleased to announce the return of its in-person Canada Day celebration on July 1 from 12 to 10 pm in Chinguacousy Park. Brampton’s Canada Day celebration is the City’s largest single day event, celebrating the occasion with a day of live entertainment, arts, culture, food, fireworks and more!
Family Friendly Entertainment
Bring the entire family for a fun-filled day of activities:
• Hop around fun in the inflatable zone;
• Enjoy all the amenities Chinguacousy Park has to offer including the splash pad and playgrounds, skateboard park, mini-golf, carousel and trackless train, paddle boat rentals, mini moo farm and more;
• Support local businesses at the food and retail vendor zones;
• A cupcake giveaway with Members of Council;
• Water-refill stations presented by Meridian Credit Union;
• Live fireworks at 10 pm presented by Tim Hortons; and
• So much more!
Live Entertainment
The Chinguacousy Swing Orchestra, Brampton Folk Club and Eclectic Revival will be entertaining visitors all afternoon with music near the paddle boat pavilion. Then, head over to the concert zone for musical performances live from the main stage at 6 pm, hosted by media personality, entrepreneur and culture contributor Jesse Jones. Roberta Battaglia will kick off the performances with the singing of the National Anthem, and then enjoy performances by Brampton rapper Spitty followed by Juno-nominated Snotty Nose Rez Kids and headliner and hip-hop legend, Kardinal Offishall, for a night you will not forget. End the night with a spectacular fireworks show presented by Tim Hortons at 10 pm to commemorate Canada’s birthday.
Spitty is an Indian-Canadian rapper from Brampton who is building up a buzz with a dedicated and growing fanbase from around the world. In 2021, Spitty released his debut album Full Circle, receiving praise from many publications including Rolling Stone India & Much Music, showcasing both his national and international reach. Off the strength of the album, Spitty headlined his own Toronto concert and performed across southern Ontario before taking his music on the road for a 6-week USA tour in early 2022. He has since continued the momentum, having just performed at DesiFest at Dundas Square, Canadian Music Week, NXNE, and BVX Fest in Downtown Brampton.
Now, Spitty aims to release new hit music and continue his journey of high energy live shows.
Snotty Nose Rez Kids are a First Nations hip hop duo composed of Haisla rappers Darren "Young D" Metz and Quinton "Yung Trybez" Nyce. They are originally from Kitamaat Village, British Columbia, and currently based in Vancouver. Their 2017 album The Average Savage was shortlisted for the 2018 Polaris Music Prize, and they were nominated for a Juno Award Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards in 2019 and 2022.
Kardinal Offishall is a rapper, record producer, DJ, and record executive. Often credited as Canada's "hip hop ambassador", he is regarded as one of the country's best hip hop artists and is best known for his distinctive reggae and dancehall-influenced style of hip hop.
The City of Brampton’s Canada Day event is generously sponsored by Meridian Credit Union, Tim Hortons, Alectra, Bell, Coke Canada Bottling, Kwality Sweets, No Frills and Simplii Financial.
Chinguacousy Park is located at 9050 Bramalea Road. On-site parking is limited at a cost of $20 per vehicle and temporary road closures will be in place. Attendees are encouraged to walk, ride their bikes, or take advantage of the free shuttle service offered by Brampton Transit for the day.
