​BRAMPTON, ON (March 24, 2022) – Today, two years after declaring a State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Patrick Brown has terminated the City of Brampton’s declared emergency on behalf of City Council and on the recommendation of the City’s Emergency Management team.

The Region of Peel also terminated its declared emergency today following consultation with Medical Officer of Heath, Dr. Lawrence Loh, as well as Regional Emergency Management.

The City declared an emergency on March 24, 2020, in accordance with the City’s Emergency Management Plan. The declaration was a significant step to support the Province of Ontario and Region of Peel in their efforts to help contain the spread of COVID-19. The declaration of emergency was an administrative tool that allowed the City more agility in its response to the pandemic to help keep the community safe.

The City remains focused on health and safety as it continues to gradually and safely reopen, and thanks residents for doing their part throughout the pandemic by physically distancing, practising good hygiene, getting vaccinated and wearing masks to help stop the spread.

Residents should continue to put the health and safety of the community first by staying home if sick, and getting vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. For the most up-to-date information on COVID-19 vaccinations, visit the Province’s vaccine portal.

Should the COVID-19 situation in Brampton change, the City will continue to work with Peel Public Health and follow all provincial and regional health and safety measures to support emergency response.

COVID-19 Support Task forces
Throughout the pandemic, the City has been dedicated to protecting the health and safety of staff and residents and supporting the local economy and disproportionately impacted communities. In March 2020, the City announced four Mayor’s COVID-19 support task forces to coordinate effective responses to COVID-19: the Economic Support Task Force, Social Support Task Force, Youth Support Task Force, and Seniors Support Task Force.

The City sincerely thanks all involved with the Task Forces for supporting its COVID-19 response efforts and the Brampton Community over the past two years, including:

With the termination of the State of Emergency, the City will be transitioning the task forces and support will continue to be provided to the community through City service delivery and via community social support networks.

Ongoing COVID-19 measures
Residents are reminded that while the City has lifted its Brampton COVID-19 Mandatory Mask By-law, masks continue to be required in select settings such as public transit, health care settings, long-term care homes and congregate care settings. Residents are asked to respect those who choose to continue to wear masks in settings where they are no longer required.

Masks will continue to be required on all Brampton Transit buses and in Brampton Transit terminals in line with the Province’s regulations. Cleaning and sanitizing remains in effect, and facilities and terminals that have hard surfaces are wiped down and sanitized daily.

Pre-screening is no longer required to enter City facilities, including Recreation facilities. Residents are encouraged to continue to stay home if they are feeling unwell.
