BRAMPTON, ON (May 20, 2020) – Today, the City of Brampton launched its “Support Local” campaign to encourage residents to Shop, Eat, Gift and Support Local. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on local businesses and they require support from the Brampton community now more than ever.

As businesses offer online shopping and curbside pickup, and eventually reopen, the “Support Local” campaign encourages residents to explore, select and buy local during COVID-19 and beyond. From ordering takeout food to purchasing gift cards, to watching The Rose’s online programming, residents can safely experience Brampton’s many local offerings.

People can also show their support for Brampton businesses on social media by promoting their favourite businesses with the “Support Local” image and hashtag #SupportLocalBrampton, and engaging with local businesses through their social media accounts.

Local businesses play a key role in Brampton’s economy. At the onset of COVID-19, the City of Brampton formed an Economic Support Task Force to support businesses as they navigated through the impacts of COVID-19. To date, the Task Force has had more than 5,000 interactions with businesses and has engaged nearly 900 small businesses through telephone town halls, discussing the impacts of COVID-19 and potential solutions. Last week,Brampton City Council approved the Task Force’s Economic Recovery Strategy, which includes the development of a “Support Local” campaign as one of many initiatives that will help support businesses and restart the City’s economy.
