The public art installation at Snelgrove Community Centre was created to increase awareness of the community centre as a hub for arts and culture. Using paint and iridescent polycarbonate panels that reflect light, the artists have animated the roof with a playful art installation that will act as a visual marker for this community space. The artwork is site-specific and inspired by the colours of the sun setting behind the centre.

"A clear blue sky morphs into a fiery sky, with every colour imaginable. Streaks of sunny orange. Puffs of cool magentas. And everything in between. Looking westward towards Snelgrove Community Centre is the scene of the setting sun and the artwork Sweeping the Clouds Away. Inside community members connect and gather to share, to celebrate, and to create. Their collective energy now radiating back out towards the sky." - LeuWebb Projects

LueWebb Projects is the artistic collaboration between Christine Leu and Alan Webb, where they leverage their professional design backgrounds to produce moments of beauty in the public realm. With each piece, they explore how a site’s qualities can serve as metaphors for storytelling and critical discourse. They imagine how art can tangibly evoke past, current, and future narratives for a richer experience of place.

This artwork was created in partnership with STEPS Public Art, a Canadian charity and social enterprise empowering artists and communities to transform public spaces into vibrant places.
