​​​BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton is seeking artists for the second Catch Basin Art Program, From Streets to Streams. 

The project is a unique initiative that highlights the value of raising environmental awareness through art in our community. This year, the city is selecting six artists to paint 12 catch basins on city roads and parks in Brampton throughout June to August. 

A selection committee made up of representatives from the City of Brampton and the Brampton Arts Organization will review the applications and select the six artists. The selected artists will each paint two catch basin murals and receive a $1,000 artist fee. The artwork will raise awareness and educate the public on how catch basins connect to the local environment.

The City of Brampton operates an extensive stormwater drainage system to collect, move and treat stormwater runoff before it is released into the environment. This includes stormwater ponds that trap pollutants before discharging into rivers and creeks. Stormwater in older neighbourhoods without stormwater ponds flows directly into the environment without pollution control. Rivers and creeks in Brampton carry stormwater to Lake Ontario, the source of drinking water for Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon. ​
