BRAMPTON, ON (June 25, 2024) – Today, Mayor Patrick Brown, Regional Councillor Rowena Santos and City Councillor Rod Power were joined by the Members of Parliament Shafqat Ali and Ruby Sahota, to announce the completion and official opening of two newly revitalized recreation facilities, including the expanded and renovated Bramalea Tennis Club at Chinguacousy Park and Century Gardens Recreation Centre.

The Bramalea Tennis Club at Chinguacousy Park now features an 80 square-metre addition to enhance inclusivity and accessibility. The addition includes:
- lounge
- kitchenette
- viewing areas of the courts
- rooftop viewing deck
- storage room
- universal change rooms with lockers
- two washrooms, one of which is barrier-free, with shower stalls and a private dry area
At Century Gardens Recreation Centre, renovations to the pool change rooms have improved accessibility and energy efficiency with:
- door widening
- new door operators
- new signage with large print
- upgrades to plumbing and lighting systems in the changerooms to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
The Government of Canada, through Federal
Economic Development Agency for Southern (FedDev Ontario), is pleased to support these projects to help families enjoy their communities and live healthier lives.
The funding also supports Brampton’s first Certified Commercial Kitchen, which will serve as a culinary hub and food incubator in the heart of downtown Brampton’s Innovation District and will create jobs and attract new businesses. The new Certified Commercial Kitchen is anticipated to open in early fall 2024.
Additional local projects funded through FedDev Ontario include Sesquicentennial Park Activity Hub, Gore Meadows Community Centre Activity Hub and Brampton Tennis Club enhancements. All these facilities are open for residents to enjoy.
Through Brampton’s Parks and Recreation Master
Plan (PRMP), a guiding document for the delivery of parks, open space, recreation and sport facilities over the next 15 years, the City of Brampton is investing to build, expand and revitalize local recreation facilities and parks since 2017, adding more than 250 acres of recreational parkland. These projects add to the growing number of recreation amenities across the city enhancing accessibility, inclusivity and sustainability for all residents.
