​Being a good neighbour means being mindful of the noise you create and its impact on those around you. With warmer weather bringing more opportunities to socialize and celebrate outdoors and undertake projects and renovations, to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable community for everyone and in accordance with By-law 93-84 and Public Nuisance By-law 136-2018​, residents are reminded to keep noise at a reasonable level.

When hosting a social event, avoid playing loud music, especially during late hours. In addition, be mindful of dogs to ensure they do not bark excessively. 

If undertaking home renovations or using loud equipment, do so during reasonable hours. The operation of heavy equipment, machinery or tools used in construction, drilling or demolition is not permitted between 9 pm and 7 am, except until 9 am on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays. To minimize noise disruptions, power devices, such as lawnmowers, grass trimmers, drills, sanders, grinders or similar devices, are also not permitted for use outdoors within a residential area between 9 pm to 7 am, except until 9 am on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.

Vehicle mufflers or other devices which emit loud, explosive or unreasonable noises, including modified mufflers or exhaust systems, are prohibited. Vehicles cannot operate on a roadway if the exhaust outlet exceeds 92 decibels A (dBA) while the engine is idling. That is equivalent to the sounds of a hair dryer. Repetitive exposure to noise at this level without protection poses a risk of irreparable hearing damage. Excessive and unnecessary motor vehicle noise, such as sounding horns, revving engines or squealing tires, is also not allowed. In addition, residents should avoid repairing, rebuilding, modifying or testing any motor vehicle, motorboat, outboard motor or recreational vehicle outdoors within a residential area between 9 pm to 7 am, except until 9 am on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays. 

Residents are encouraged to contact Peel Regional Police to report noise disturbances related to fighting, screaming, shouting, swearing or the use of insulting or obscene language, as these activities may constitute criminal offenses. In cases of loud parties, Enforcement Officers may also refer complaints to the police.
