The City of Brampton’s Recreation Division offers practicum, co-op placement, and internship opportunities for post-secondary students in the following focus areas:
- Recreation and Leisure (General)
- Sports Management
- Fitness and Health Promotion; Kinesiology; Physical Education
- Child and Youth Care
- Social Service Worker; Gerontology
- Developmental Social Worker (DSW)
- Recreation Software/ Business Support
Students will:
- Learn about recreation programs at the municipal level
- Apply relevant knowledge learned in the field of study
- Build professional relationships
- Gain real world experience and hands on training at the municipal level
- Be equipped to apply for relevant job opportunities available after co-op
- Gain confidence in the specified field
Selection Criteria*
- Must be registered in a degree or diploma program in a related recreation field (i.e. Recreation & Leisure, Sports Management, Child & Youth Care, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Gerontology, Developmental Social Worker, Business, Computer Applications, or related field of study)
- Working knowledge of related legislation, in applicable area of discipline
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Customer service skills and experience
- Written and oral communication skills
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
- Must be able to work some evenings
- Police Clearance Certificate required if successful
