Program Guidelines and Admission Standards

Program Information

Unless otherwise stated, the following outlines the age categories for admission/access to recreational programming:

  • Child (10 yrs or under)
  • Youth (10-13 yrs)
  • Teen (14-17 yrs)
  • Adult (18-54 yrs)
  • Student (Full-Time) (18-54 yrs, with valid Student ID)
  • Adult 55+ (55 yrs or older)

Please be advised that we may request a physical photo identification (Drivers license/Government issue/School ID will be accepted) to verify participant ages and validate account information at check-in prior to program entry. This measure is implemented to ensure a positive and age-appropriate experience for all attendees.​

Please note, minimum and maximum age restrictions are listed in the program title.

Each program is unique and has specific age limits that must be followed. Age restrictions are based on factors like regulatory compliance, developmental abilities, safety concerns, content appropriateness and educational value.   

The City of Brampton follows the standards of the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development to ensure age groups follow the HIGH FIVE Program Design Guidelines of being Developmentally Appropriate, Safe, and Welcoming of Diversity and Uniqueness.​


The City of Brampton has adopted an allergen reduced environment. Please avoid packing foods that contain common allergens such as peanuts or other nuts of any kind.

In the event of severe, adverse weather, please check our website for details. Every effort will be made to ensure that all Recreation facilities remain open during regular hours of operation with programs and services to the public continuing to operate as normal.

The City of Brampton is a breastfeeding friendly organization and welcomes all breastfeeding mothers and children.

The City of Brampton reserves the right to cancel or alter any program information without notice, due to registration numbers, change of policy, or availability of instructors/facilities.

For the comfort of all patrons, children seven (7) years of age and older must use the change room assigned to their gender. Family change rooms are available for use at most locations.

Drop-in programming is available at select Recreation Centres. Spaces are limited for drop in programs, please pre register for your drop in swim, skate, sport and fitness programs by using the search tool located here . Registered swim, skate and sports programs are also available through the search tool.​

If participants do not arrive within fifteen (15) minutes of their reservation time for drop-in programs, their spot may be forfeited. Cancel your reservation by logging into your online Recreation account. Please view this tutorial for step-by-step instructions on how to cancel your reservation. Cancellations are accepted online and via phone up to one hour in advance of the program start time. Participants can also email recreation@brampton.ca​​ to cancel their reservation up to twenty four (24) hours in advance of the program start time. ​

The City of Brampton does not permit the use of City facilities to facilitate private lessons or training by a third-party individual or organization during public programming hours, unless permitted through a facility booking contract for select amenities and organizations offering non-competing programs.​

In order to ensure the safety, comfort and privacy of all patrons using our facilities, the use of electronic devices (e.g. cell phones, digital music players, portable video game consoles, etc.) is not permitted in change rooms due to the integration of cameras into these devices.​

​One (1) or two (2) adult guardians over the age of eighteen (18) and up to three (3) dependents, defined as eighteen (18) years of age or under or full-time students under the age of twenty-five (25), qualifies for a family pass. Multiple families cannot be combined on any pass/membership purchase. All family members must be on the same family account.​

In our Family or Parent and Child programs, "parent" means any adult caregiver aged 14 or older. This could be a guardian, relative, or family friend. All family types are welcome, and we encourage meaningful connections through our programs.

The City of Brampton is committed to providing a safe and harassment-free environment. Coarse language, aggressive, disrespectful, or uncooperative behaviour is not acceptable. If inappropriate behaviour occurs, it may be documented, reported, and may result in removal from the program and/or facility.

Typically, registered programs will not be scheduled on public statutory holidays. Please refer to your Registration Receipt for specific course details​.

The Community Services Department encourages and welcomes participants with disabilities. Admission fees may be waived for Support Persons accompanying a person with a disability, as long as the support person is not participating in the program/service (some restrictions may apply). Opportunities may exist for the individual to be registered in non-specific programming (please contact Inclusive Programs staff at 905.846.2370 or inclusionprograms@brampton.ca​​ for more information).

Please make sure staff is aware of severe allergies or medical conditions the program participant may have. It is strongly recommended that children take necessary medication at home under the supervisor of a parent/guardian. Participants that require medication during program hours must have a parent/guardian complete and sign a Personal Information Record. Please ensure that all medication is submitted in its original container.​

Makeup classes are not available in the event that a participant is unable to attend a program/class.​

Please inform us of any family or behavioural concerns. Staff will make every effort to accommodate participant needs; however, we reserve the right to withdraw participants from programs should their behaviour cause harm to themselves, other participants, staff or property.

In order to ensure the privacy of others, filming and/or photography by members of the public and spectators are not permitted during certain registered programs and/or drop-in programming. Recreation staff may take digital images of participants for promotional or marketing purposes with the expressed consent of participants.

In order to ensure the safety of our participants, parents/guardians are required to accompany their child to the program area when dropping them off and come into the program area to pick them up. Please ensure that a staff member is aware of your presence when you pick up your child. In the event that your child is being picked up by someone else, please inform staff at the beginning of the program.​

Our facilities are public places and open to all members of the community. To ensure the safety of all patrons, children under ten (10) years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at least fourteen (14) years of age or older. When attending a registered program, children under ten (10) years of age do not need to be accompanied during the program (unless otherwise stated), however, the parent/guardian must remain in the building (programs in excess of two (2) consecutive hours excluded).

​Only service animals are permitted inside City of Brampton facilities. They must be clearly identified; for example, a guide dog wearing a harness and/or vest.
