History

The Brampton Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1979 by a group of dedicated sport enthusiasts, in conjunction with the Brampton Recreation Department.

Everett Coates, Mush Thompson, Jim McCurry and Kevin McCauley, who with the assistance of "Lefty" Reid, Curator of the Canadian National Exhibition Sports Hall of Fame, helped create both the Hall of Fame and its operating constitution. The construction of the Hall was further assisted through a generous donation by E. Herbert Armstrong.

In the fall of 1999, the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame was re-located to the new state-of-the-art Brampton Centre for Sports and Entertainment, (since renamed to "The CAA Centre") located one kilometre south of Steeles Avenue on Kennedy Road. The Hall is located in the west concourse walkway within the 5,000 seat arena complex, adjacent to the "Kennedy Road Entrance".

The re-location of the Hall to the CAA Centre has had a positive and profound effect on both the visibility and stature of the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame. Being situated in a world class facility, it is now being seen annually by tens of thousands of visitors who attend the many spectacular attractions that the CAA Centre has to offer.
