In 2023, the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) launched a province-wide campaign to raise awareness about the life-saving importance of having working smoke alarms in every home.

Test Your Smoke Alarm Day and the annual “Saved By The Beep!” public education campaign are held every year on September 28.

Also in 2023, Ontario experienced its highest number of fire fatalities in 20 years. Tragically, in far too many of these fires, investigators found no working smoke alarms in the home.

A working smoke alarm can provide the early warning you need to get out safely.
