Garbage and Debris

Garbage and debris may include: garbage bags, animal waste, discarded furniture, appliances, machinery, vehicle parts, hazardous objects or materials, and anything that may attract/harbour rodents or insects (i.e. stagnant water).

The City of Brampton regulates proper disposal of garbage and debris, as well as the proper storage of Peel Region waste carts and other containers, in order to maintain appropriate safety and community standards.

Removal

Residents must keep a yard free from all garbage and debris. Stagnant water that accumulates on children’s toys, buckets, tires, wading pools and pool covers is required to be removed, in an effort to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and the associated risk of the West Nile Virus.

*For more information on the West Nile Virus, contact Peel Public Health.

Waste Carts

Peel Region waste carts and other garbage containers are to be maintained in a clean state, and not stored in a yard facing the street (including open balconies and porches). In cases where a property is unable to store waste carts and containers at an interior side yard, rear yard or garage (i.e. a townhouse with a single-car garage), the City may allow a reasonable alternate method of storage.

Collection

Residents are permitted to place items for collection after 7:00 pm on the day before scheduled collection. Containers and any uncollected items are required to be removed by 8:00 pm on the scheduled collection day. Refer to the Region of Peel for guidelines surrounding the maintenance of waste carts and collection scheduling.
