Driving Instruction Zones Pilot Project

To help increase the availability of safe spaces for driving education and training, the City of Brampton is launching its Driving Instruction Zones Pilot Project. Effective June 27, 2024, license​d driving school instructors and school operators are permitted to conduct lessons in designated areas of the parking lot at six recreation ce​ntres.

This initiative aims to offer a controlled and safe environment for new drivers to hone their skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. Brampton's recreation centre parking lots will provide an opportunit​y for practical learning.

How to Book

To use a Driving Instruction Zon​e, individual driving instructors or operators are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of $25 at a participating recreation centre which will give them access to an online booking portal software. Instructors will then be able to book a 30-minute time slot between 9 am to 3:30 pm from Monday through Friday.

For public safety, a maximum of ten instructors and vehicles are permitted per parking lot at one time slot.

This one-year pilot project will undergo a review to determine next steps.

The Driving Instruction Zones Pilot Project is an initiative launched by the City of Brampton to provide designated areas within select recreation centre parking lots for licensed driving instructors and school operators to conduct driving lessons.​

The pilot project commenced on June 27, 2024.​

The designated driving instruction zones are available at the following recreation centres:

The designated parking spots are marked via signage.​

Individual driving instructors or operators must pay a non-refundab​le registration fee of $25.00 to rece​ive access to the online booking portal software. To pay the fee, you must visit one of the participating recreation centre locations. At the time of payment, you will receive a registration link via email where you will receive access to book 30-minute time slots between 9 am to 3:30 pm from Monday to Friday. Ten instructors and vehicles are permitted per parking lot at one time slot.​

To cancel a session, you must call 311. Please provide a 48-hour notice.​

To ensure public safety, a maximum of ten instructors and vehicles are allowed per parking lot each time slot.

Under Ontario's no-fault automobile insurance system, if a driving school vehicle damages a patron's car, the patron must seek repairs through their own auto insurer.

Yes, visitors are permitted to park in the designated zones during off hours.
