BRAMPTON, ON— The City of Brampton is exploring the creation of a Municipal Services Corporation (MSC) to help manage many ongoing and future large-scale projects and improve how services are delivered to residents. This idea is part of the City’s efforts to prepare for the transition of key services from the Region of Peel to the City of Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon or other new organizations, as directed by the province. To guide this process, the City is seeking valuable input from the community. Your feedback is vital in shaping this initiative to support Brampton’s growth and ensure it delivers meaningful benefits for all residents.
What is an MSC?
A Municipal Services Corporation is a tool that helps cities manage projects and assets more efficiently. It operates in a business-like manner to streamline decision-making and enhance financial and operational management.
Why is Brampton Considering This?
With significant changes underway, including the transition of regional services and several large City projects, an MSC could help Brampton:
- Prepare for Change: Manage the costs and complexities of taking on new responsibilities from the Region of Peel.
- Support Big Projects: Oversee critical projects like downtown redevelopment, Brampton Transit electrification, and the Centre for Innovation.
- Save Money and Deliver Better Services: Simplify operations, create cost savings, and provide better outcomes for residents.
What Are the Benefits?
If approved, the MSC would:
- Maximize the value of City-owned assets for residents.
- Improve coordination and efficiency in managing City projects.
- Help the City achieve long-term economic and financial sustainability.
