​P​resented in partnership with Brampton Arts Orga​nization (BAO), we are calling all grade 9 students who are interested in learning more about a career in the arts. Would you like to spend a day at The Rose Brampton and BAO offices? Come an​d join us for “Take Our Kids to Work Day”! Unlike the traditional Take Our Kids to Work Day, you are not require​d to have​ a parent or sponsor who works here. All grade 9 students living in Brampton are welcome to attend this FREE program.

This day features:

  • Tour of The Rose
  • Career panel
  • Performing​ arts workshop with Luke Reece OR Visual arts workshop with Charmaine Lurch
  • Youth seminar
  • Catered hot lunch
  • Swag bag

Charmaine Lurch

Visual Arts Workshop Facilitator

Charmaine Lurch is an interdisciplinary visual artist whose work draws attention to human-environmental relationalities. Lurch's paintings and sculptures are conversations on infrastructures and the spaces and places we inhabit. Working with a range of materials and reimagining our surroundings—from bees and taxi cabs to The Tempest and quiet moments of joy, Lurch subtly connects life and movement globally.

Luke Reece

Performing Arts Workshop Facilitator

Luke Reece is an award-winning poet, playwright and producer who strives to share authentic and engaging stories with audiences through his work. Luke is the Associate Artistic Director at Soulpepper Theatre, one of Canada's leading non-profit theatre companies. Through his work as an artistic leader within the national arts community, he advocates for entertaining and nuanced storytelling that challenges Canadian audiences. He is one of Toronto's most decorated slam poets, and his body of work includes a radio play, animated short, and a praised short film featured on CBC titled 'Notice'. Luke has represented Canada on the world stage of Slam Poetry, and was also featured by NBA Champion and former Toronto Raptor Serge Ibaka on his Instagram Talent Show, 'How Talented Are You?'. His solo show “As I Must Live It” premiered February 2024 and has garnered praise and comparisons to Lin-Manuel Miranda in The Globe and Mail.

Nereé works for the City of Brampton on the Cultural Programming team, as the Community Programming and Outreach Associate. This proud Fletcher's Meadow SS Alumni is a spoken word artist and is one of the most decorated Slam Poets in Brampton.

Adam started working at the City of Brampton via the co-op program in 2013. He was then hired on for the summer to work as an Assistant Stage Manager for the Shakespeare in the Square Festival. He then stayed on part time to work events like Rib and Roll Festival, Classic Cars and Legendary Stars Festival and other events at the Heritage Theatre, Lester B Pearson & Cyril Clark Theatre. In 2006 Adam was a member of the team that helped equip and set up The Rose theatre for its official opening gala featuring Diana Krall. Adam stayed with the City for another 9 years until he eventually landed a full-time position as a Theatre General Operator, running the lights, sound & video and setting up different stages and stage lines. Adam says, “This job has provided me wonderful opportunities to experience a variety of shows from all cultural backgrounds and I wouldn't trade for the world. The hours can be tough and long but the rewards are worth it.”

Amanada is a visual artist with a focus on photography and video. She has a background in visual arts and has held roles as an arts educator and administrator in organizations across the GTA. Currently, she is the Education and Community Engagement Coordinator at the Brampton Arts Organization.

Amir Majid graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an honours degree in Social Justice and Peace and Religious Studies. After school with a focus on advocacy and social justice, Amir built his career as a corporate fundraiser working with non-profits and charities both locally and nationally including the United Way, and Habitat for Humanity, raising funds for these organizations in excess of $3,000,000. Building from his experience as a corporate fundraiser he began to play roles as a funder, first as a grants and fundraising professional with the Halton District School Board and then in Corporate Social Responsibility with Aviva Canada. After this, Amir managed grant programs with Community Foundation of Mississauga overseeing a total grant portfolio of over $1,000,000 annually. Now, Amir is responsible for Non-Profit and Charitable grants with the City of Brampton making grants that total over $1,500,000. Along with grant making work, in Brampton, Amir is also responsible for providing valuable capacity building training to the Non-Profit sector in Brampton.

Danny has been a performing arts professional for the past 22 years. Currently functioning as the Artistic Programming Coordinator for Brampton On Stage, Danny curates the theatre's presenting series. A presenter focused in multidisciplinary performing arts such as theatre, music, dance, and comedy. Prior to this Danny was the Artistic Director of the Shakespeare in the Square festival as well as the producing wing of the Rose Theatre Brampton. Danny has been a performer and artistic director on amateur and professional stages for the past 20 years, having directed some 40 plays and musicals. Danny is a graduate of Humber College's Comedy Writing and Performance program, and Central Peel Secondary School.

Jilliann is an accomplished event planner known for her attention to detail and passion for creating extraordinary experiences. Born into a family that has always had a knack for planning and hosting events, Jilliann pursued and furthered her education when she graduated in 2019 from the Hospitality, Special Events program at Humber College, with honors. Jilliann has since been planning large scale corporate events as the Senior Specialist with the City of Brampton. Jilliann is responsible for planning events such as JAMBANA, Black History Month, International Women's Day, Diwali, Brampton's 50th birthday celebration and so much more! When Jilliann isn't planning events, you'll find her at home spending time with her husband and kids or working on another DIY house project!

With a career that includes collaborations with brands like Sephora, Scotiabank, CBC, and HGTV, Saf is passionate about supporting and mentoring emerging creatives. Her dedication to authenticity and boldness shines through in every piece she creates, making her a celebrated figure in the art community, with a commitment to inspiring other creatives and helping them navigate their paths in the arts industry.

Chloe Goodridge is a recent high school graduate and founder of The Black Youth Creative, which was a summer arts program in 2023 geared towards sharing Black artists and artistry to youth in Brampton. She is interested in expressive abstract painting and is currently taking a hiatus from running her business to focus on personal creative goals to better her craft.
