New Home Builder Inspections

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Once you have received your permit, please review all documents for changes that may have been made to the submitted drawings. If any changes raise concern, please review them with your plans examiner.

Included with your approved plans will be a permit card and a card with required inspections indicated. To avoid costly delays to the construction process, please ensure that the appropriate stages of construction are inspected.

How to Request Inspections?

All requests for inspections must be submitted through the online Brampton Building and Business Portal.

Inspection booking for the following business day will no longer be available on the portal after 3:00pm.

Inspections are available to book for 5 days in advance and take place between 8:00am and 4:00pm daily. There are no inspections on Saturday, Sunday or statutory holidays.

Mandatory Inspections

Please review the list of mandatory inspections for your type of permit (located on page 2 of your permit card) as so​me of these may not apply.​​​​

Footing - At ready stage for pouring concrete, excavation complete, forms in place on undisturbed soil free of standing water, mud and loose earth

Engineered Fill - P. Eng. Report - Final subgrade and wall reinforcement (if required) reports must be submitted to building inspector prior to framing inspection

Perimeter Insulation (Slab-on-grade) - Slab-on-grade insulation inspection in walk-out and some look-out conditions

Backfill - Ready for backfilling of foundation, damp proofing applied, weeping tile covered with stone (min. 6 inches of cover)

Weeping Tile Connection - If pre-sewered, inspected at backfill

Structural Framing - Prior to insulation but after rough ins are complete and passed (plumbing, hvac and electrical)

Fire Separations - Upon completion, usually coincides with framing inspection, usually occurs in semis and townhouses

Basement Finish Structural Framing - Prior to insulation but after rough ins are complete and passed (plumbing, hvac and electrical)

Occupancy - Once all applicable inspectors pass occupancy inspections an occupancy permit will be issued and mailed to owner within 5 business days

Final - All construction is complete, interior and exterior. Once passed by all applicable inspectors a Certificate of Final Inspection will be sent within 10 business days

Weeping Tile Connection - Inspected when connected to storm sewer prior to covering

Outside Sewers / Water Service - Water service, sanitary and storm sewers before covering

Inside Drains - Prior to covering (usually with basement floor)

Plumbing Rough-in (Water Pipe) - Plumbing System (drains, supply and venting) installed and ready for testing

Basement Finish Plumbing Rough-in - Basement Plumbing System (drains, supply and venting) installed and ready for testing

Basement Finish UG Plumbing Rough-in - Prior to covering (usually with basement floor)

Occupancy - Once all applicable inspectors pass occupancy inspections an occupancy permit will be issued and mailed to owner within 5 business days

Final - All construction is complete. Once passed by all applicable inspectors a Certificate of Final Inspection will be sent within 10 business days

Exterior Insulation - Exterior insulation complete per design specs

HVAC rough in - HVAC ductwork complete

Interior Insulation - Insulation and vapour barrier complete, prior to drywall but after the framing inspection is passed

Exposed Floor Insulation - Insulation complete in space above unheated space (ie. Cantilevered floor, rooms over garage/porch)

Basement Insulation - Insulation and vapour barrier complete, prior to drywall but after the basement framing inspection is passed

Basement Finish HVAC Rough-in - HVAC ductwork in basement complete

Occupancy - Once all applicable inspectors pass occupancy inspections an occupancy permit will be issued and mailed to owner within 5 business days

Final - All construction is complete. Once passed by all applicable inspectors a Certificate of Final Inspection will be sent within 10 business days
