Brampton’s Parks and Open Spaces
The City of Brampton is home to many parks and natural heritage lands, including valleys, woodlands and recreational trails across the city.
Brampton has long valued its parks system, with Gage Park being the first municipal park created by Brampton in 1903. Since then, Brampton's parks and open spaces have grown to adapt to the City’s diversity and culture.
By the year 2031, Brampton's population will grow to more than 837,000 people. This level of growth will influence the types of parks and recreation services required. The City of Brampton needs to determine the increased demand for parkland while conforming to the new requirements of Ontario’s planning legislation.
City staff were directed to complete a new Parkland Dedication By-law before the provincial deadline of September 18, 2022, in response to the City Council report called Update to Bill 108 More Homes, More Choice Act, 2019, and Planning and Development Charges Matters relating to Bill 197, COVID-19 Economic Recovery Act, 2020.
