Public Art

Public Art is recognized by the City of Brampton as a valuable tool in building vibrant, prosperous and inclusive cities, which are attractive to residents, businesses, investors, and visitors. The City is engaged in stewarding its current public art collection, while also engaging in meaningful placemaking opportunities each year which produce new public art initiatives, activations and interventions.

Work under the Public Art portfolio supports the City of Brampton's Culture Master Plan.

Call for Artists: 50th Birthday Mural

Deadline: May 10th, 2024, at 2:00 pm EDT
Budget: $90,000 CAD (inclusive of HST)

The City of Brampton invites Ontario-based artists and artist-led teams to submit an Expression of Interest to create a new mural in celebration of the City of Brampton’s 50th Birthday milestone.

Project Description

The City is looking for a dynamic artwork that will celebrate the rich history and cultural heritage of Brampton. The mural must be designed and fabricated offsite and installed in fall 2024 at the designated location on the southeast corner of The Rose, the City’s largest performing arts centre. The City is open to a variety of approaches and materials, including but not limited to painted panels, printed digital illustrations, laser-cut images, texture relief, photographic images, digital collage. The artwork must be contained within the identified canvas area but does not need to fill the entire space. The borders of the mural may be organic or can extend to the edges of the designated canvas.

The City of Brampton has a growing municipal public art collection that includes work in various mediums and categories, created by artists with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Types of artworks in the collection include.

Civic Monuments & Memorials: Special artworks intended to honour individuals, groups or events of significant importance to Brampton.

Permanent Public Artworks: These artworks enhance a public space, in a long-term and enduring way.

Temporary Public Art Projects: These projects enhance a public space in a short-term, temporary way.

Murals: These artworks are found on wall-based canvases around Brampton.
