The City of Brampton is celebrating Earth Month in April. Join us for free, family-friendly activities and programs, including the Earth Day 2024 Environmental Celebration and Grow Green Awards at Gore Meadows Community Centre and Library on April 20!

Earth Day 2024 Environmental Celebration and Grow Green Ceremony at Gore Meadow Community Centre & Library - April 20

The City of Brampton is hosting the third annual Earth Day event on Saturday, April 20th from 11 am to 3 pm at Gore Meadows Community Centre & Library, 10150 The Gore Rd, Brampton, ON L6P 0A6. (by the pavillon/ice rink)

Grow Green Awards Ceremony

The Grow Green Awards Ceremony celebrates individuals, businesses, and organizations from across the city that have demonstrated strong commitment to advancing the Grow Geen Vision to conserve, enhance and balance our natural and built environment to create a healthy, sustainable and resilient Brampton. The 2024 Grow Green Awards will be presented to recipients during the Ceremony.

This free family-friendly event will also include:

Stormwater Pond Tours: Join the Stormwater Program at 2:00pm and 2:30pm to learn more about stormwater ponds in Brampton
Kids Zone
Cyanotype Workshops at 11:45am and 2:00pm
Interactive public art installation
Litter pick-up
Festival showcasing environmental leadership across the City of Brampton

Sacred Fire Ceremony

Opening: 12-12:30pm | Closing: 3:30-4pm

Gokoomis (Grandmother) Vivan and Dr. Hopi Martin from Edge of the Bush will be facilitating an Opening and Closing Ceremony with a Sacred Fire. They will be accompanied by Oshkaabewis (Sacred Helper) Tabitha Shurgold. Photography of the Sacred Fire is not permitted.

Registration to attend the event is not required - please drop by!

Getting to Gore Meadows Community Centre

To celebrate Earth Day, please bike, walk or take public transit to support sustainable actions for Earth Day. Parking for the event is in the south lot, overflow parking is located at Castlemore Public School, which is a 10-15min walk to Gore Meadows Skating Rink.

Join one of four BikeBrampton-led rides to the event, visit www.bikebrampton.ca/events/ for more information. Extra bike racking will be available at Gore Meadows Community Centre. All ride leave at 10:15am. Ride-In registration closes on Friday, April 19th at 5:00pm.

Residential Tree Giveaway: April 13 & 17

Earth Day Tree Planting Event: April 20

In partnership with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), the City is hosting a free tree planting event on Saturday, April 20 from 10am to 12pm at Gore Meadows Community Centre, 10150 The Gore Road. This event will take place rain or shine. Please dress for the weather and come prepared with closed-toed and gloves. Registration is required as spots are limited. Organized Clean Up Days

Join us for an organized clean up, e-waste collection and BBQ. Each year families, friends, community organizations, businesses, and school groups participate in the Parks Cleanup Program by helping keep Brampton clean and green. The Program helps remove litter that has accumulated, promotes community engagement, and creates healthy vibrant spaces. Learn more: brampton.ca/parkscleanup

Litter Reduction Charter and Virtual Tool

The City of Brampton is embarking on a goal to become Canada’s first litter-free city and is leading several initiatives to achieve this. Building on its inaugural Litter Reduction Forum last fall, Brampton’s Community Safety and Well-Being Office Litter Reduction Working Group is collaborating on two new initiatives, Brampton’s Litter Reduction Charter and a new Litter Reduction Virtual Tool.

Brampton’s new Litter Reduction Charter is a resource to foster community participation to beautify Brampton by eliminating litter. As the City continues to finalize the goals of the Litter Reduction Charter, starting on April 20, community members are invited to provide input and feedback during the community consultation phase.

In addition, on April 20, the City is launching its new Litter Reduction Virtual Tool. This tool will allow residents to track their cleanup efforts by reporting the area they have visited and the amount of litter they have collected. Through this tool, residents can share their results to challenge other neighbourhoods to undertake their own cleanup efforts to keep Brampton clean.
