As staff and residents of the city, we all want to love where we live. We want our community to feel like home, to be a place that gives us a sense of pride, and the type of city we want to work hard to protect and maintain.

The Unit is responsible for the Brampton’s black community civic engagement programs. The Civic engagement activities involve working with different stakeholders and partners to make a difference in the civic life of our community and developing the combination of knowledge, procedures, skills, values, and motivation to make that difference impactful on the black community in Brampton. We work with community stakeholders to promote the quality of life in the city, through both political and non-political activities. The civic engagement programs involve bringing the community together to help improve the overall quality of life for everyone who lives and works in Brampton.

Examples of such programs include:

  1. Political activism, environmentalism, community, and national service.
  2. Volunteering, settlement for new black residence, social cohesion, and service-learning.
  3. Creating access to affordable home to keep residents safe, using our website as an emergency platform for community disasters, or creating an emergency response and rescue team for a disaster recovery.
